Welcome to my page!
A little about myself; my name is Matt Simas and I'm an illustrator based in Toronto, Canada. As well as being a freelance illustrator, I am also an aspiring fashion designer. As you will see from my art work, I am heavily influenced by fashion, pop culture, comics, and pop divas. Strong female archetypes play a big influence in not just my art, but in life as well. I've always been inspired by characters such as Buffy, Wonder Woman, Catwoman etc. I've always been drawn to the strong females opposed to the typical tough, macho men. As I mentioned earlier, I'm heavily inspired by pop divas, mainly Madonna and Lady Gaga. The women who pushed and continue to push the boundaries in the entertainment business, always keeping us on our toes and excited for what is to come. Fashion plays a big role in my day to day life. To me, fashion is not just about pretty garments, but it is an art. A way to express yourself and to tell the world who you are without saying a word. Fashion is about taking risks, to be bold and daring. To be yourself. My main interest/aesthetic in terms of fashion is definitely the European side of it all. The fine tailoring, precise silhouettes, the fine detailing.... that is what gets me going. My main ''obsession'' is hands down, the house of Versace. A beautiful, bold, loud look. Almost tacky in a sense, yet still confident and sexy. The great quote is,'' Armani dresses the housewife. Versace dresses the mistress.'' Gianni Versace's inspiration coming from prostitutes. The raw sexiness that shows through in Versace's designs are just breathtaking. At the time, no one would dare dress the ''hooker''. Everything was very classy and sophisticated. This is a main reason why the house of Versace inspires and appeals to me so much. Continuing his legacy after his tragic death, Donatella Versace continutes to design amazing pieces that are both elegant and sexy. Being a comic fan from an early age, attracted to Catwoman, Poison Ivy etc, it is no wonder why Versace is my biggest influence. My other big influences in fashion include: Tom Ford for his exquisite precision and breathtaking simplicity in his designs. Practical and oh so very sexy. John Galliano who comes up with these drop dead gorgeous designs with such class and theatricality. Old school Theirry Mugler for the hard edge using metal, leather, corsets- you name it. Inspired heavily by S&M and bondage. The Mugler aesthetic is so artistic and exaggerated. I tend to bring a lot of these influences into my designs, designing alot of dresses with corsets, leather and lace. I hope to one day bring these creations to life. Anyway, I hope you enjoy what you see here. Please visit my other page at www.mattsimasdesigns.tumblr.com. Like on facebook @ Matthew Simas Art Inquire about commissions at matt.s.simas99@hotmail.
